BP #7 - Summary & Reflection- Lina


Booker Taliaferro Washington

     Booker T. Washington was born on 1856 in slavery, and died on 1915 in Tuskegee, Alabama. His father was an unknown white man and his mother was a small farmer in Virginia. Washington was granted an honorary master's degree from Harvard University in 1896 and another  honorary doctorate from Dartmouth College in 1901. In 1901 Washington was the first African-American ever to be invited to the White House as the guest of President Theodore Roosevelt. He progressed through education and industry. He was an American educator, author, and leader of the African American community. Also, he was the most influential spokesman for black Americans.

      He is a very important man in African American history who was involved in the Civil Rights movement. Also, he played an important role in the education of African Americans.
