BP#3 Harlem - haiyan

The area north of 59th street in Manhattan was called "Muscoota".In 1658, the government built the Dutch town of "Nieuw Haarlem" in Muscoota. Later, it was simplified to the English word as Harlem. The area is where we are known as Broadway.

Once, people used to describe Harlem as a place where for the first time Negroes got out into the mainstream of the dramatic world. Harlem was a largest concentration for the colored people who were experienced the discrimination, just escaped from the dark time, expected to cure the chronical  pain and imagined a new different life. After the segregation society, Whites tend to accept, trying to share what they have owned unfairly as a White. But, something deep-rooted were not easy to throw away in a short time. America was still a White-dominated society in the most fields. In order to fight against with poverty and earn their lives, blacks began to learn skills and find their own jobs as living, such as novelists, musicians and actors. And Harlem was a settlement for them at that time.

The birth of Jazz is generally considered as the beginning of Harlem renaissance. We all know Jazz well; it's  kind of world's most widely-enjoyed music till  today.
Harlem, its history, renaissance, and its expression in music, are still known as a important history in American society. As  colored people, it has known as the first time that they express  their values.
